A Rant. Just for a fucking change.

OK, so I mentioned tinpot companies yesterday, in my list of shitty things.

My Mr works for a car spares company. They currently have 3 staff in the warehouse. Him, a lazy arsed skiver, and a temp from an agency. Temp was originally contracted to work until the end of October.

Mr Criz hurt his arm, and had a month off sick. He did it at work, lifting heavy objects that were placed in an awkward position – on a top shelf. He is now on light duties, and returned to work before he should have because we couldn’t live on SSP. He hasn’t driven the van yet, but is capable, but can’t do pipe bending.
Thick Shit has barely done a full week, becasue either he or his kids (that don’t even live with him) are ill. He uses company van for giving his family lifts, he has damaged the van due to his speeding, and he is very lazy. He does know his way around London, and is apparently quite clever when he bothers. He refuses to make exhausts.
Temp is working for an agency. He has loads of warehouse experience, knows what he is doing, but can’t drive the van, because he’s under 25.

Yesterday, they are called into an office, and told they never have 3 staff working, so they have to make one redundant. They are informed they will be ‘assessed’ over the next 48 hours, then they will make their decision.

Today, they are all sitting there with their clipboards, and saying they are making the decision today, because it is unfair to keep them waiting.

Mr Criz just came home to tell me they have not made a decision yet, because ‘it’s a hard decision to make’

This begs the following questions:

1. Why don’t they just let the temp go at the end of his contract?

2. As 1. Maybe they like him better, and are looking for an excuse to get rid of someone else. But how can they make someone redundant if there’s a temp in place? Makes no sense.

3. Why tell them they are being assessed? Just assess their normal work, because if one of them makes a superhuman effort to be good, they’ll soon lapse back if they’re kept on.

4. Why assess at all? They must have some idea of work performance, behaviour, sick record etc.

5. Why keep changing their minds? Dragging it on is hardly going to help.

6. If Mr Criz is chosen, they don’t have to pay him redundancy, because he hasn’t been there 2 years, but they would for the other chap. Mr Criz thinks they’re trying to get rid of him because of his injury.

7. Isn’t there something ever so slightly underhand and conniving about this?

Guess who, yet again, is Not Happy?

I’m going to the gym, to sweat it out and get angry at the treadmill.
