I forget where I was with the ranting last week but I thought ‘sod it’ and went for Truffle Mk2 with some cheapo polka dot polycotton. Thing about polycotton – it BEHAVES!!!

This time – I cut standard pattern. Only alteration was half an inch at the hips on each back piece, and half an inch on the length to accommodate my squat butt. I also ignored the construction instructions and left the back seam till last. I got Bob to pin the back together and draw a line where it fit. Basically I took a small 1/2″ wedge out of the top of the centre back seam on either side. And I tried it on once the zip was done…fit pretty well, apart from a bit of baggy back. This was sorted by taking a small wedge out of the shoulders (I have sloping shoulders too)

And it was good. It fit, really quite well. Pleased with myself, I finished the neckline and hemmed the dress, adding a little lace trim. Came the evening, I showed it to Bob..WTF?

The arse rides up, there is still some bagging in the back, but if I pull my arms forward it’s tight so can’t take it in – AAARRGHHHH!!!!

I did wear it Friday night, I think it looked OK and was definitely wearable but just a little annoyed….will put a pic up at some point..

THis evening, I thought I’d redo the pinstripe fishtail skirt I cocked up last week. Cut the sides out, reinserted the zip, did all the gathering again, and it fit really well….(apart from a dodgy bit near the zip_…decided to press the seams, and side seams…and my iron melted the fabric!!! See mess below.

It didn’t do that last week, and the iron was on the same setting!! Double AAARRGHHHH!!!!

I did get some comedy patterns last week from the Oxfam shop for 29p each though. I was somewhat taken with this, for some reason 😀

In non sewing related stuff, I have some pictures of soil. I got to the allotment today, and planted some garlic, shallots and onions. In this darker bit of soil.

I also dug this bit of soil, into which I will put pea plants.

This is how it looked a fortnight ago, before I dug any soil

Not sure exactly what I’ve ben up to since I last updated – I started an exercise blog, which predictably, lasted about a week before I had a major wobbler.

I’ve been training away from home, so not had time to do anything, and boy does it show.

I can’t tell you how annoyed I am by the weeds at the allotment – who knew plants could grow so much in 2 weeks? Saving grace is the tomatoes are looking fantastic, as are the spuds. I managed to cut down some chest high thistles, in order to give the carrots some light too….

I have now decided to go on the all out offensive. I’m going to buy a load of Glyphosate and black sheeting. Gonna spray the weeds that have beds of their own, cover with sheeting and bricks and leave. There’s not much else I’ll be sowing this year, and if I do, I have space in the sweetcorn bed as only 4 plants came up *sad face*

Meanwhile, on Ladybird Watch, I note that there are very few about this year, after seeing thousands in Spring…I saw one on the allotment today, that’s it…..haven’t even seen a Harlequin yet this year, except for the one I saw in Germany….

On the sewing front, I finally finished ‘The Horror of Satin MkII’, aka New Look 6002, and this time I went for eye searing magenta. I learned my lesson though, I made a toile of the bodice, and when I cut the pattern, I made sure I took a wedge out of the bodice front and each centre back seam. I even lined it. It wasn’t really difficult but it was really slippery polyester silk and the satin was also slippery….

Wore it to a friend’s wedding yesterday, and it was reasonably comfy, if a little tight at the back of the arms…and the hook and eye at the top of the zip itched. I attempted a lapped zipper because I didn’t have a concealed one, and it looks OK, but Bob tells me my zip is slightly off centre. Meh, I can’t see it….. 😀

I look grumpy as hell in the pic, but that’s because I was caught off guard – I said ‘take a pic’ and he didn’t even give me chance to smile! I like the dress, may well wear it to another it happens the wedding was awesome, and between the meal and the reception, we got to play lawn bowls, croquet and wander round the lake, we also found a stable with a horse and a really small donkey in, so we petted them too….

I don’t normally look this miserable, honest!

Well actually you can’t, cos I’ve taken no pictures..BUT…

Perusing the local charity shop this afternoon, I find they have a bit of fabric in (they hide it amongst the bedlinen, curtains etc)….so today, for the grand total of £8.97, I managed to bag myself;

A scrap of really nice teal fabric. I say scrap, it’s 24″ x 70″ – I’ll probably get a small top out of it….it’s sort of crepey but has no stretch….

2 metres of slightly stretch black stuff with a stripe which is perfect for making a shirt or light dress for work. Not too drapey but comfy…would need lining if I made a skirt….

Almost 6(!!!) metres of burgundy suit/trouser fabric with a little stretch.  Debating whether to make Vogue 1265 out of this, seeing as I’ve ordered it and all.

Have just joined – get the magazine for £30 a year, plus 2 free patterns, and every other pattern I buy is half price – saves waiting for the Vogue sale at the fabric shop 😀

So they are the patterns I bought, or rather, didn’t…….

I also got ‘goal’ trousers, which are just too tight to fasten up. My goal is to get into them (comfortably) by end of July.

If the rain holds off, I’m going to the allotment later.

Oh and in Debenhams earlier – Henry Holland top – I LOVE his tights but I need this top, yes I do, I don’t even care that it’s white….

Some musings

Quick post, while I finish my tea.

It’s another lovely day, and I’ll shortly be off to the allotment to do some digging and plant stuff.

Things that are going through my mind atm….

Is it too early to plant the ‘early’ tomatoes outside? They are flowering, after all…..

Am I being lazy by putting the sweetcorn, oca and courgettes straight into the ground?

What the hell am I going to wear at Leipzig? I want cool outfits, but I like to be comfortable. I can see myself packing some pretty clothes then spending 5 days slobbing around in combat shorts and a vest… do you make goth clothes comfortable (and flattering)?

Today’s list of stuff includes – digging, sowing lots of seeds, planting tomatoes out (well, some of them), crossing fingers, buying buttons and cat litter, and possibly writing a long rambling post about it all later….

Before I went away, I bought some cheap fabric from the charity shop. While I was away, I bought some trim from Boyes, and today, I bought more fabric, from Milton Keynes Market. But not the rude bloke, cos I wanted wearable basic stuff not cool but mental embellished stuff. Even if it is all £2/yard 😀

So, my fairly recentish haul looks a bit like this….

The 80s splatter fabric is stretchy, as is the stripey grey and black t shirt stuff. Next to that is what appears to be a 70s bedsheet, but it’s the perfect colour for the S/S’12 palette…then some drapey stuff I got today which is actually the right colour, and some lining type fabric I got from the charity shop….above that is another today purchase – spotty satin. Because I’m an idiot. I know satin is foul but the colour is so pretty……then various bundles of lace and ribbon – how awesome is the turquoise lace? And yes, that is ladybird ribbon, I know…but they had 7 spots…

Now, what to make? Was thinking of a Taffy for the flowery turquoise but now I’m thinking dress….argh. I also bought Burda mag today, and want to make about 8 things in it but oh god the instructions look a total mare!

Either way, before I sew anything, I need to remove the triffids from my table and possibly swap computer desks over, as my new (smaller) one is currently housing the stash in the pic…..

Allotment is a disaster of weeds. Eek, will have to do some SERIOUS weeding this weekend, weather allowing. This is what a fortnight of torrential rain and a holiday does…

I have been doing MMM’12 by the way – I’m wearing a me-made today, and hopefully Bob will get a pic of it later, when he’s allowed to leave Luton.

Luton. Grrr…hotbed of grim. There are ‘demonstrations’ today (read:riots and an excuse for a bit of a fight) by some Nazi scum and some religious fundies. Yay (OK, that’s a bit extreme but they can all piss off, I don’t want anyone’s belief shoved down my throat, thanks, whether it be extreme left or right wing and face it, nationalists and religious zealots are sides of the same coin – ie our gang is the best gang and anyone who’s not in it is evil and bad and wrong and should be shot)

The Uni was closed to students for ‘safety reasons’, ie the Uni thought there was going to be trouble. Yet Bob’s employer decides that’s a perfect opportunity to do some maintenance, cos rioting fuckheads demonstrators can tell the difference between a student and a plumber/sparky – gah!

As it is, apparently there have been no actual riots but all the roads have been closed until the EDL have left, so he’s been stuck there..until about now…..nice to know his employers care so much.

Ah text from Bob 17.01 – he’s finally leaving Luton 😀

Political rant over, I have some sewing to plan!!

What have I been up to? Not a lot. Failing to make stuff properly, tidying up and packing for Whitby, that’s about it!

Will be taking some creations with me, have to practice for MMM’12!

Will also be visiting Boyes and the fabric shop

Much walking and stuff to be done, lots of fry ups to eat, and drink to er drink 😀

Have tidied up the sewing room so it looks lovely, repotted the triffids and packed.

Packing, it occurs to me I have loads of skirts, and no tops. Unless you count baggy old band t shirts. This must be rectified….I can’t make tops for shit. Even I can’t have a wardrobe FULL of Taffies :p

I am now knackered and am going to veg in front of the telly with either tea or JD, depending on if there’s milk in the fridge…..

Also forgot to mention on Ladybird Watch last weekend, at the allotment, as well as loads of seven spots, I also saw over half a dozen Adonis Ladybirds – this makes me very happy. Still no filthy foreign ones yet this year….. 😀

Well, how am I getting on with my impossible list of stuff to do?

Hair – I’ve washed the dreads, bought elastic bands and found someone daft enough to help put them in.

All0tment – rain has stipped me getting there to check the peas, but I repotted some tomatoes earlier – have to repot the Amish ones (again) and the earlies, but I’ve run out of compost….will buy more tomorrow (assuming it’s on offer – 81p!!!)

MMM-12/Colette – Erm. I went to the charity shop the other day – they had fabric. I bought most of it. The bits that ‘go’ with the challenge – the purple cotton that looks like a 70s bedsheet (it isn’t), the aqua stuff that I think is best used as lining, and er,,,,not the tomato red stretchy velvet stuff, or the black suiting type material, nor is it the stretchy 80s splatter print in black and red on white. Oops. The pattern I bought in the sale (£2.47 – woop – even though it’s a $2.99 pattern :s) is a plain dress pattern. Not shorts, or a jacket, or even a blouse. Oh dear.I am about to attempt to do some more of the netty petty, so I will shortly hate pins.

Done a bit of washing, pots and clothes. I’ve even (the important bit) wrteen up half a dozen reports this morning, so now I actually have time to do stuff.

I didn’t skate – funds and ropey gumshield meant no chance. Elbow still knackered from Polenastics 😦

Thing I Need To Make #1 – I was rather drawn to the turquoise version, but I have that bag of leather scraps I found – now I have a project (or 3) to make feom them – yay!!!

Right. where’s them pins…..

Had a bit of an odd day today. I failed to get to the bout, which was annoying, as I was really looking forward to it. Sadly, eating large quantities of liquorice and grapes the day before was NOT a good plan! 😀

Instead, I went to visit a couple of lovely friends, one of whom fixed my green glass eye pendant (not as weird as it sounds – a dear friend made it for me, you can get one here )

Same friend had also made me a rather lovely ladybird pendant. Yes, I am obsessed…you can view the rather stunning things she makes here

I then went to the allotment and put in the frame for my pea netting. Didn’t plant the peas as there’s risk of frost in next couple of days…didn’t put the actual net up either as I have visions of birds flying into it and getting trapped (had 2 drown in the water butts last year 😦 )

Back home, feeling a bit better and I decided to make the jacket from New Look 6947. I’ve made the trousers, they were a little big, but fit well (eventually) The jacket will have no sleeves and actually be a waistcoat, and I’m making it from the fabric left over from the Meringue. I had just over a metre, the pattern calls for at least a metre and a half, but having no sleeves, thought it would be fine….. 3 HOURS of pissing around later, I’ve got all the pieces to fit, but I’ll be buggered if I can be bothered to cut them out tonight!

Just as I pin the last piece on, I FINALLY find the piece that tells me the finished garment measurements….I should have known…..WTF do I need 6 and a half inches of ease in the bust for? WHY??? Gah.

I am now off for a cup of tea, some quality chill out time and a bath.

Start with the first – yesterday I made a shiny bit for my car, and then I made it not shiny by spraying it with etchweld. On Friday, my non shiny will be welded onto my car, so it will have a smaller hole in the side. Hurrah!!

Last night, I went to Polenastics, and despite my legs being fooked from training legs the day before, I managed two inversions and so now I feel more confident.

Yesterday, I also made a start on the Purple Petticoat of Doom which will be a calf length effort of epic proportions. One thing I have learned from the green one – I have sewn the pieces together BEFORE overlocking the edges so all the edges match. That’s it – I haven’t got to the awful gathering stage yet 😀

Have a friend coming over later to sew…my remit is to teach her to thread a sewing machine, how to hand stitch without it coming undone and how to sew on a button. All pretty easy BUT my hand stitching is DIRE!!!

My pea plants need to go out, but Wilko’s have sold out of 7 and 9 foot canes. Grrr,

Indeed, it is a long time. What has happened?

We went to Supernats, a local hot rod and custom show, and much fun it was too. We went in the truck, had a good time, took it on the cruise, it blew a gasket (literally) so was taken home, and we went on to the Mopar Drags at Santa Pod in the car. After the drags, Bob went to sort the gasket, and the truck got back to Old Warden… day was show and shine, I was out in the sun for 10 hours and got horribly burnt. I am a twat.

Last week, Yuki went missing. Seems she escaped out of the window (second floor!) and hasn’t been seen since. Have flyered some neighbours, been out looking and nothing yet. Local vets haven’t had her brought in, neither have the animal rescue places, so she’s out there somewhere….

Accommodation for WGT Leipzig booked, and deposit paid, I am now trying to relearn all the German I forgot 20 years ago. Also looking to go to the Le Mans Classic next year…at least my passport will get used for the first time in years!!!

Been to the allotment it’s a bloody wilderness, but got some exciting seeds from the Real Seed Co, and sowed a row of each of red kale, mispoona and winter radish today…

My car did a spectacular impression of a kettle on Monday, and Mr RAC man had no idea what was wrong. Massive car overhaul coming soon….

On Ladybird Watch – they’re bloody everywhere! For the first time ever, earlier, I saw a newly hatched one – all orange with no spots…..and since my encounter at the allotment, and the dive bombing one near the college, I haven’t seen a single Harlequin. Not one. And bear in mind this area was overrun with them a couple of years back, all I see are 7-spots…..

Oh, and work is really really really shit.
